In most cases, you will need to reboot your computer in order for the driver update to take effect. Locate the device and model that is having the issue and double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.Ĭlick the Update Driver button and follow the instructions. How to Install a driver from Device Manager ![]() In Windows XP, click Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager button In Windows Vista, click Start -> Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Device Manager In Windows 7, click Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager In Windows 8, swipe up from the bottom, or right-click anywhere on the desktop and choose "All Apps" -> swipe or scroll right and choose "Control Panel" (under Windows System section) -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager In Windows 11, Windows 10 & Windows 8.1, right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager In Windows, use a built-in utility called Device Manager, which allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them. Once you have downloaded your new driver, you'll need to install it. It is a software utility which automatically finds and downloads the right driver. Tech Tip: If you are having trouble deciding which is the right driver, try the Silicon Image Driver Update Utility. In the results, choose the best match for your PC and operating system. Enter Silicon Image SiI 3114 SoftRaid 5 Controller into the search box above and then submit. If the driver listed is not the right version or operating system, search our driver archive for the correct version. After you complete your download, move on to Step 2. ![]() To get the Silicon Image SiI 3114 SoftRaid 5 Controller driver, click the green download button above. For information, see Section 14.15, Replacing a Failed Segment in a Software RAID.How to Update Silicon Image SiI 3114 SoftRaid 5 Controller Device Drivers Quickly & Easily Step 1 - Download Your Driver ![]() In general, to reduce the size of a RAID device: Back up its data, delete the RAID, re-create the RAID with a smaller segment size or fewer segments, and then restore its data from the backup copy.įor some RAIDs, you can replace a failed partition by removing the segment from the RAID, replacing the failed disk, and then adding a segment to the RAID to replace the failed one. You cannot remove segments in a RAID device to decrease its size. In iManager, click Storage > Software RAIDs > Increase Size, and then add segments up to the maximum number of segments for each type of RAID. The maximum number of partitions is limited by the maximum number supported by that RAID type and the maximum device size that can be seen by NSS and Traditional file systems.Īfter you set up the software RAID device, you can increase its size by adding segments. You must specify at least the minimum number of partitions to create the type of RAID you choose. Maximum RAID size (total for combined segments)Įach software RAID device comprises multiple partitions. Somewhat decreased, depending on channel configuration and parity calculationsįor more information on guidelines, see Section 6.4, Naming NSS Storage Objects. Slightly improved, depending on channel configuration Same if parallel channels otherwise, slightly decreased Improved if parallel channels to each mirror, with RAID 5 read advantage Improved, if all segments are present and working properly Improved if parallel channels to each mirror Table 14-2 RAID Performance Characteristics To mirror software RAID 0 devices, the member devices must have no drives in common. Such configuration heavily degrades the performance of the file system. A mirror group is expanded by adding a partition from your free space but not by adding an existing mirror group to the current group.Īll of the devices that participate in a mirror must be marked a shared or not shared for clustering for each mirror group.Īvoid setting up multiple mirror groups on a single device. You cannot combine mirror groups (existing groups with multiple mirrored partitions). All of the pool’s partitions must be mirrored in order for the data in that pool to be fault tolerant. If a storage pool spans multiple devices, each of the individual partitions that make up that pool can be mirrored independently. You can mirror only partitions, each from its own OES partition. Mirrored partitions should be set up on devices that have similar performance thresholds. Mirrored partitions must have the same partition type: NSS partitions to NSS partitions and Traditional partitions to Traditional partitions. ![]()
